There are approximately 40,000 inhabitants in Saaremaa, with about 15,000 of them living in the capital - Kuressaare and the rest live in other areas of the 2,673km square land mass.

Saaremaa joined the IIGA in 1991 and have their main sucesses in cycling and vollyball.
